If your one of the millions that is living daily with Vitiligo, ( a disorder that destroys the pigments in your skin leaving white patches in the area that once had color) looking your best can sometime feel like a challenge. Finding just the right shade of foundation to cover your contrasted skin can be a daunting task.
Personally, I’ve never used any of the camouflaging cosmetics like Dermablend. I found a shade that worked for me, but the store owner stop ordering it. I still would like to find my shade but I don't have the patience to keep comparing shades from various cosmetic companies to find my best match.
Sad, I know! (I'm working on becoming more patient) However, on certain occasions, I wear makeup. I wear it as an enhancer and it also help protect my skin from sun and windburns. It don’t cover my contrasting areas, but it does create a nice smooth finish. I While applying eye shadow, I notice that various shades “pop” or “stand out” on parts of my eye lid that have no pigment. Some individuals thinks it’s cool how certain colors stands out on my pigment -free skin. This isn’t a confirmation of any sorts that I like having this skin disorder, but I have to live in a very judgmental world that primarily bases everything on physical appearances and if I am to survive, I have to look for and appreciate all positives that can be found in a society of people that only will judge me by the color or contrasting colors of my skin and not by the content of my character .
